Venturing out into Auckland on a ‘rest day’ from the World Cup means more on foot than previously. It also means poorer cell service. Which is strange to say it what seems a larger city than Wellington, but Auckland wasn’t great. We headed towards the Weta workshop (folks that did a LOT of special effects and things for all the Hobbit movies and a lot more)unleashed tour, which was in the same building as the New Zealand All Blacks rugby team experience. We had time to wait before our Weta tour so of course we check out the shops for both.
Failed to mention as we approached this building, part of the Sky City complex, we thought we saw members of the Spanish team heading in as well. This complex is a casino and a huge tower (1079ft, almost 2x the height of Space Needle). This also seemed to be a FIFA hotel of sorts too. Lotsa cars with WWC logos on them. We weren’t sure they were players, but it was amusing to see them.
Well, sure enough we get to the All Blacks experience shop and there they are in their Spanish team tracksuits. Ha! Course they’d just knocked the Netherlands out so we were torn about approaching them. Maryke got a couple pics sorta on the sly tho.

After this tho it was time for the Weta Unleashed tour, which Maryke will go into better details on.
Sky City was your typical looking casino which wasn’t too busy on Monday morning. And the tower is huge. More on that next time.
