We woke up to a lovely marine layer of grey and rain. It’s a rest day for the tournament so no games until tomorrow. Despite the rain we decided to try the cable car and have lunch at the cafe at the top.

One thing I’m fascinated with is when you ask for iced coffee, most places have two options. Coffee over ice (sometimes a latte over ice) or coffee with a scoop of ice cream. The coffee here is just as good as Melbourne! The view was still worth the ride up.

After the cable car we wandered past the closed Fifa fan fest on the waterfront towards the Te Papa Tongarewa Museum. The museum collection includes gorgeous local indigenous artwork and artifacts, including a permanent exhibit of how they used celestial navigation to sail around the islands of the Pacific. The carvings and long boats are amazing.

Time to rest our legs for game day. Netherlands v Spain! Hup Holland Hup!
